LUSAKA - UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu has acknowledged the existence of opposition political parties in Zambia but claimed that they have failed to present alternative policies to those being implemented by the UPND Government.
Speaking on Friday's edition of the Let the People Talk programme on Phoenix FM, Mr. Nkandu dismissed the assertion that the Zambian people are the country's biggest opposition.
He said the Zambian people cannot be regarded as an opposition because they do not have a single leader representing them, explaining that their role is to elect the government of the day.
Mr. Nkandu said although opposition political parties exist, they have largely adopted and promised to improve initiatives already introduced by the UPND administration, including free education and the Social Cash Transfer programme.
He further argued that opposition parties would better serve the country by providing constructive criticism and advice to the Government rather than simply contesting elections, claiming they have failed to present new ideas to the electorate.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nkandu attributed the continued high cost of commodities to businesses that have maintained high prices despite improvements in the country's economic performance.
