Epileptic Woman Allegedly Raped and Impregnated by Stepfather in Nyimba

NYIMBA - A 32-year-old woman from Nyimba District in Eastern Province has allegedly been raped and impregnated by her stepfather, who is currently on the run.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed that the matter was reported to police on Sunday. He said the victim alleged that her stepfather, identified as Brusho Lungu, sexually assaulted her on an unknown date in June 2026.

Mr. Mweemba said the victim, who is an epilepsy patient, suffered a seizure outside her home and later regained consciousness inside her stepfather's sitting room.

According to police, the woman later discovered semen on her private parts and suspected she had been sexually assaulted. When she confronted her stepfather about the incident, he allegedly did not respond.

Mr. Mweemba said the victim informed her mother about the incident but was allegedly advised not to tell anyone.

Approximately two months later, after missing her menstrual cycle, the woman suspected she was pregnant and again confronted her stepfather, informing him that she believed he had taken advantage of her while she was unconscious. Police said he again remained silent.

The victim later informed her mother about the pregnancy and was allegedly told to report the matter wherever she wished.

Mr. Mweemba said the matter was subsequently reported to police, who issued the victim with a medical report form to facilitate a medical examination.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large as investigations continue.
