LUSAKA - A fire swept through Buseko Market in the early hours of Monday, August 31, destroying timber and planks estimated to be worth millions of kwacha.
Matero Member of Parliament Alexander Mumba Sakala, who captured footage of the incident, said firefighters were making efforts to contain the blaze, but the intensity of the flames had hampered their efforts.
“The firefighters are trying their best to put out the fire, but the flames are too much and water has become scarce despite their efforts,” Mr. Sakala said.
The full extent of the damage and the cause of the fire have not yet been established.
Authorities are expected to issue a statement as investigations and assessments into the incident continue.
