LUSAKA - State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka says Zambia has experienced only isolated incidents of political violence during the 2026 election campaigns, contrasting the situation with what he described as widespread violence under the previous Patriotic Front (PF) administration.
Speaking to Hot FM News, Mr. Hamasaka said the country has not witnessed widespread political violence during the current campaign period and attributed this to President Hakainde Hichilema's consistent condemnation of all forms of electoral violence.
He said the President has repeatedly spoken out against political violence and has maintained a firm stance in promoting peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 13 General Election.
Mr. Hamasaka added that during the PF administration, incidents involving teargas, bloodshed, and political clashes were reported in various parts of the country.
However, he acknowledged that some cases of political violence have occurred during the current campaign period but maintained that they are not on the same scale as those experienced under the previous government.
