Kambwili Urges ECZ to Ensure Fairness in Campaign Schedule

LUSAKA - Former Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to ensure fairness in the campaign timetable by not allowing President Hakainde Hichilema to revisit provinces where he has already campaigned.

Speaking to Hot FM News, Kambwili said President Hichilema should not receive special treatment in the campaign schedule, arguing that he is a presidential candidate like any other contestant in the August 13 General Election.

Kambwili said it would be unfair for President Hichilema to campaign again in provinces where National Reconciliation for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has already held campaign meetings.

He said the ECZ should not permit such an arrangement if it is to maintain a level playing field for all candidates.

According to Kambwili, the Electoral Commission had directed that each presidential candidate be allocated five days to campaign in each province.

However, he alleged that the Commission was not adhering to its own directive by allowing President Hichilema to return to provinces where he had already conducted campaign activities.
