OUR party is too sweet, that’s why people are fighting for positions, claims PF secretary general Davies Mwila. And Mwila says the loss of Lusinde Ward in Kaumbwe Constituency is an indictment on the area member of parliament Hon Listed Tembo, who was also campaign manager. Addressing the media at the party secretariat in Lusaka yesterday, Mwila said the infighting over positions in the ruling party was as a result of its lovability.

“There is no confusion. In an election it’s about competition and you know our party is too sweet that’s why people are fighting for positions. We expect such to happen but we don’t expect violence but I do not have information where the area members of parliament are interfering and we’ll not comment of that. What we are saying is that let people choose their own leaders, who should lead them, that’s the position of the party,” Mwila said.

And the PF has welcomed the position taken by the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) to have the former chair and lead the dialogue processes. Mwila said it was also gratifying to hear from the Church that a cordial meeting at which President Edgar Lungu and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema had “brotherly” discussions was held.

“That is as it should be and President Lungu’s doors have always been open to anyone who seeks to engage him on matters of national interest,” Mwila said.

H said the Patriotic Front has always been ready for dialogue. Meanwhile, Mwila lamented his party’s loss of Lusinde Ward in Kaumbwe Constituency, which he said, was their stronghold. He further said in a by-election, the loss of a ward election speaks to the ill performance of an incumbent member of parliament and local party leadership. Mwila warned non-performing ministers that they would not be adopted in 2021 following their failure to make a grade in their backyards.

“Let me also state that Eastern Province is a PF stronghold and therefore the loss of Lusinde Ward in Kaumbwe Constituency is regrettable. In a by-election, the loss of a ward election speaks to the ill-performance of an incumbent member of parliament and local party leadership. The loss in Lusinde Ward is an indictment on the area member of parliament Hon Listed Tembo who was also campaign manager for the by-election. Let me state that this is happening in a ward where the MP resides. This is one of the reasons why we are introducing performance appraisals for all PF MPs. I am therefore directing the provincial leadership in Eastern Province to get down to the ground and submit a full report to my office in fourteen (14) days from today,” said Mwila.

The UPND grabbed the seat from the PF.
