Policy Analyst Kelvin Chibomba has advised government to consider instituting further investigations at Zamtel following revelations that the parastatal is making losses.
Recently, Science and Technology Minister Felix Mutati disclosed that Zamtel is a loss making venture as a business with about 90 percent of its revenue being utilized for administrative expenses.
Commenting on this development, Mr Chibomba notes that a government institution can only sustain itself once it is viable arguing that it is not only worrisome for a parastatal not to make money but that it becomes a challenge for the entity to sustain its operations if it is not able to sustain itself.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr Chibomba is of the view that instituting a thorough investigation at Zamtel will help determine the depth of the losses and provide an opportunity for government to find solutions on how the institution can be aided in order to protect people`s jobs.
