Vice President Mutale Nalumango has emphasized the important role that women play in human resource development and the country`s development agenda.

Speaking when she officiated at the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management 2nd Women Conference in Lusaka this morning, Mrs. Nalumango says women`s empowerment can have a range of positive impacts on women`s lives including improved economic opportunities, greater control over their own lives, increased political participation and greater gender equality.

In a speech read for her by Permanent Secretary Special Duties Wisdom Bwalya, the Vice President notes that when women are empowered to participate in the political and decision making processes, they can have greater say in the decisions that affect their lives and communities leading to more inclusive and representative decision making and policies that better address the needs of women.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nalumnago says the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management is one of the nation’s strategic partners and government expects the institute to ensure that it plays its critical role in the growth and development of the economy.

At the same event, Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management President Moffat Nyirenda says there is an urgent need for a new world of work to be constructed for women starting with an acknowledgement that the current economic models have not yielded the necessary inclusivity for women.

Mr Nyirenda says to this end, the institute has taken a deliberate and critical decision to create a female networking chapter, Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management Women's Network-ZIWON whose major goal is to ignite, mentor and groom female human resource practitioners into desired leaders
