CALL FOR ENHANCED COOPERATION IN ADDRESSING NON-TARIFF BARRIERS TO TRADE AS ZAMBIA HOSTS 22ND COMESA HEADS OF STATE SUMMIT

As Zambia hosts the 22nd COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit on 8 June 2023, the Zambia Association Of Manufacturers-ZAM- President Ashu Sagar is calling on member countries to enhance cooperation in addressing the non-tariff barriers to trade and increasing access to market and services.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Sagar says this is important in the quest to promote the growth of cross border trade.

Mr. Sagar is also calling for the harmonization of standards saying it should not be a challenge for any COMESA member state to export or import any products based on failure to meet the standards of another country.

The ZAM president says there is also a need for exchange of cross border skills so that the countries can benefit from each other’s skills.

Zambia will next month host the summit which will be preceded by the meeting of the committee of ministers of foreign affairs on 6 June and the COMESA Business Forum and exhibition on 7 June 2023.
