Elderly woman dies in a fatal accident

 



AN elderly woman has died on spot while four other victims sustained injuries after a bus lost control before hitting traders near Ndola’s Chisokone market.

The bus bearing registration BCD number 6056 was being driven by an unknown driver when the accident happened along Blantyre road at divine bakers and fast foods.

Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba and Ndola Teaching Hospital (NTH) Public Relations Officer Shawna Kamwendo confirmed the accident.

Mr Mweemba said the accident happened yesterday around 12:30 hours and the driver fled the scene after the accident.

“The accident happened when the bus  was being driven along Blantyre road from North to South direction and in the process due to excessive speed the driver failed to control the motor vehicle and went to hit the pedestrian. The  driver is on the run and the motor vehicle has been impounded,” said Mr Mweemba.

According to an eyewitness, the bus hit the woman who was selling in a make-shift stall where she was trapped together with the other victims.

The victims who are admitted at NTH are Mwitwa Benson 52 of house number 1312 Overspill, Twapia township who sustained general body pains,  Lilian Mukoma 48 of house number 1312 Overspill, Twapia township who sustained deep cuts on both legs and another person who has not been identified who sustained head injuries.

And Gift Chikoti 23 of Chipulukusu township  who sustained a bruised face.

The four victims are admitted at NTH.
