POLICE ADVISED TO IMMEDIATELY TAKE CHRIS ZIMBA`S CASE TO COURT

Advocates for National Development and Democracy -ANDD- has demanded that former State House Political Advisor Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba should be taken to court and be released on bail.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says the offence for which Mr. Zimba has been charged was bailable until this year when the law was amended.

Mr. Banda says his organization is aware that police are alleging that Mr. Zimba and others committed some acts in 2020 when the offence was bailable hence arguing that the law which was made in 2023 cannot be applied in retrospect to acts that were allegedly done in 2020 by making them unbailable.

He explains that his organization notes that President Hakainde Hichilema has been very consistent in demanding that law enforcement agencies should only effect arrests after investigation and give bail to those entitled to bail further stating that police should follow the policy guidance by the president and take Mr. Zimba to court.

Mr. Zimba and three others have been jointly charged and arrested for being in possession of articles for terrorism or proliferation purposes contrary to section 25 of the Anti- terrorism act number 6 of 2018 as read with section 2 of the amended anti–terrorism act number 6 of 2023.
