SENSELE MINE RESCUE DISCONTINUED DUE TO RAIN

By Lovemore Sondashi

Government has discontinued the rescue work at Sensele Mine in Chingola.

Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo has informed families of the Sensele Mine accident victims that rescue work has become complicated due to heavy rain being experienced in the district.

Mr. Matambo says works on a full scale will not continue as tunnels are being filled up with water and mud each time it rains.

Mr. Matambo says families waiting to hear the fate of their loved ones should prepare psychologically to wait much longer.

Over 30 illegal miners were trapped underground after Sensele Mine collapsed on 1st December, 2013.

Rescue officers have only managed to retrieve 11 bodies and one person alive.
