LACK OF COMMUNICATION BY AUTHORITIES WORRIES FAMILIES OF CHOLERA PATIENTS AT THE NATIONAL CHOLERA TREATMENT CENTER

Family members of cholera patients spending nights at the Cholera Treatment Center at Lusaka’s Heroes Stadium have raised concern about the inadequate communication from authorities regarding the status of their admitted relatives.

A check by Phoenix News at Heroes’ Stadium found families of cholera patients who have been stranded for days at the entrance, eagerly awaiting updates from authorities regarding the status of their relatives.

Those talked to expressed concern about the inefficiency at the epicenter, which has left many worried, particularly after several days without any information about their patients, who were supposed to have been discharged within 72 hours.

And Health Minister Sylvia Masebo has acknowledged the challenges faced by the families, emphasizing that government's primary goal is to safeguard many lives from contracting the disease.

She has clarified that restrictions on entry will only be lifted when there is a significant reduction in cases.

Meanwhile, the Association of Indigenous Local Tour Operators in Zambia is calling on the Ministries of Tourism and Health to work together to combat the spread of cholera in the tourism sector.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Association Secretary General Kelvin Mwelwa says it is important to equip all tourism facilities with preventive measures such as dish washing facilities and disinfectants.
