MOPANI COPPER MINES STARTS PAYMENTS OF ABOUT $300 MILLION OWED TO LOCAL SUPPLIERS AND CONTRACTORS

Mopani Copper Mines has finally started liquidating its current and past liabilities to local contractors and suppliers believed to be around $300 million.

According to Mine Suppliers and Contractors President, Costa Mwaba, Mopani is paying current debts and will only remain with invoices that are due in the next 30 days.

Mr. Mwaba, who has thanked President Hakainde Hichilema and government for the intervention at Mopani, is hopeful that the situation will also soon be resolved and replicated at Konkola Copper Mines.

He has told Phoenix News that the move to pay the over $300 million owed to local suppliers and contractors will finally revive the Copperbelt economy and has called for quick solutions to challenges at Lubambe and Chambishi metals.
