RESCUE OPERATION FOR TRAPPED MINERS AT MACROLINK MINE UNDERWAY



 Mopani and Konkola Copper Mines-KCM- rescue teams have set up camp at Macrolink Mine in Ndola, where 7 miners, 2 Chinese nationals and 5 Zambians have been trapped for more than 24 hours.

According to Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Augustin Kasongo, as of midnight, it was agreed that Mopani and KCM support teams were required to complement the existing equipment and rescue teams on site.
By broadcast time, the 7 miners remain trapped following a water incursion into a shaft at Macrolink Resources Zambia Limited yesterday, as they were about to knock off from 235 meters underground where they were working.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Commissioner of Police Peacewell Mweemba says police have identified the trapped 5 Zambian miners as John Mumba, Saviour Musanshiko, Peter Mulenga, Blessings Selemani and Teddy Chilukutu while the 2 Chinese nationals have been identified as Zhandi Liqiang and Zhang Libin.
