Opposition Socialist Party Leader Fred M’membe has described how the recent by-elections have been held by the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ as fraudulent, and a waste of time and money.
Dr. M’membe has accused the ECZ and the police of laxity in addressing the alleged violent conduct by the United Party for National Development-UPND against his party since it began participating in the by-elections in 2021.
He narrates that the socialist party has been a victim of alleged upnd violence in most of the by-elections, but that its members end up being arrested and detained by police without prosecution.
The Socialist party leader has also accused the UPND leaders and cadres of disrespecting the ECZ campaign timetables alleging that the ruling party carries activities at will and with impunity.
Dr. M’membe says there is a total collapse of the electoral system in Zambia, resulting in fraudulent and unfair by-elections marred with violence which hinders people from expressing their will.
