COPPERBELT FARMERS EQUIPPED WITH SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO COMBAT CURRENT DRY SPELLS

The Copperbelt Provincial Agriculture Office has commenced equipping farmers in the province with skills and knowledge on how they can combat the dry spells currently being experienced in the province and other parts of the country.

Acting Provincial Agriculture Coordinator, Lauren Chisamba has told Phoenix News that farmers in the province have shown willingness to adapt to smart agriculture practices; a move she says will help address the negative impacts of climate change.
Mrs Chisamba explains that among the skills and knowledge that farmers are being equipped with include the practice of conservation agriculture which emphasizes the use of natural resources and aims to minimize soil disturbance and enhance water retention.
She adds that the promotion of agriculture techniques is also being promoted to help farmers improve their productivity, reduce water wastage and better adapt to climatic conditions.
Last week, Green Economy and Environment Minister Collins Nzovu revealed that the prolonged dry spells currently being experienced are expected to continue throughout the month of February.
