GOVT COMMENDED FOR PLEDGING NOT TO OBSTRUCT REGISTRATION OF UKA

Our Civic Duty Association –OCIDA- has commended government for pledging that it will not obstruct the registration of newly formed United Kwacha Alliance-UKA.
9 political parties have come together to form the United Kwacha Alliance, a movement meant to challenge the UPND in the 2026 general elections, which government through Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa has welcomed.
OCIDA Chairman Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu is therefore encouraging government to go beyond its pledge by meeting regularly with leaders of the UKA to discuss issues of common or national interest.
And the Archbishop who has commended opposition parties for recognizing the necessity to overcome their differences and unite for a national cause is hopeful that UKA would not be overly motivated by the narrow pursuit of political power but work with the government and other stakeholders to find solutions to the country`s many challenges.
Archbishop Mpundu notes in a statement that the country is currently experiencing socio-economic challenges that cut across political party affiliation, social identities and geographical boundaries.
He says it is important for all Zambians who are worried and concerned about this difficult period the country is going through to unite and confront these challenges together.
