WESLEY MIYANDA CALLS FOR AN URGENT ASSESSMENT OF ZAMBIA’S HUNGER SITUATION

Governance Expert Wesley Miyanda has urged the government to urgently evaluate Zambia’s food situation following the low yields recorded during the 2022/2023 crop season.

Mr. Miyanda tells Phoenix News that this is also necessary due to the poor rainfall pattern and the excessive sale of maize by some small-scale farmers to meet other financial needs.
He claims that the situation is worse in rural areas, where families have no reliable source of income other than illicit charcoal burning and gardening in regions with access to water.
According to the Governance Expert, the majority of people in the country's rural areas are barely surviving, necessitating an assessment of the situation to avoid potential deaths from hunger.
