GOVT TO BEGIN DISBURSEMENT OF K400 PER MONTH DROUGHT RESPONSE EMERGENCY SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER THIS MONTH

The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services will this month begin disbursing the K400 per month, drought response emergency social cash transfer to beneficiaries in the 84 affected districts for the next one year.

Speaking when he featured on the Tuesday edition of Let the People Talk Program on Phoenix FM this morning, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Francis Lukunga said this is in addition to the existing social cash transfer benefiting over 1.3 million Zambians.

Mr. Lukunga also explained that the K400 per month emergency drought response social cash transfer is in addition to other interventions by other line ministries, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU- and partners such as the World Food Program that provide food items and material support to maximize impact on beneficiaries.

He further explained that once the 12 months period is complete, the emergency drought response social cash transfer will end while those on the regular cash transfer will continue to receive K800 from the current K400, over a two months period.

And Mr. Lukunga has assured that social cash transfer payments through mobile money accounts were as of the last payment, at a 98 percent success rate with the 2 percent failure base due to forgotten passwords, among other challenges by respective beneficiaries.
