COPPERBELT POLICE WARN AGAINST PROVOCATIVE CAMPAIGN TACTICS FOLLOWING CLASHES BETWEEN UPND AND NRPUP IN KITWE

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi has warned political parties against employing provocative campaign tactics, following the arrest of three people in Wusakile constituency, Kitwe, yesterday.
Mr. Yuyi has warned that police will not tolerate actions that have the potential to trigger violence during the election period.
The Copperbelt Police Commissioner has emphasized that political players must strictly follow campaign schedules issued by the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- in order to ensure fairness and prevent clashes between competing parties.
This follows the arrest of 3 people including Kitwe Mayoral candidate Charles Kabwita, who have been charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace after a confrontation involving UPND and National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity-NRPUP- campaign teams.
Mr. Yuyi has however, told Phoenix News that the reported incidents are nothing to worry about, and that the Copperbelt remains calm and peaceful.
He has since warned that any conduct deemed likely to disturb public order will attract police action, regardless of political affiliation.
