LUSAKA - The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that the arrival of the first consignment of ballot papers and other election materials has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 28, 2026, following changes to the charter flight schedule.
The ballot papers are now expected to arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 05:00 hours Zambian time.
Speaking during a stakeholder briefing in Dubai, ECZ Commissioner Ndiyoi Mutiti said the first flight, which had initially been scheduled to arrive in Zambia on Sunday, July 26, will instead depart on Monday at 21:00 hours Zambian time.
Ms. Mutiti explained that the revised arrangements were made after securing a larger aircraft with a carrying capacity of 100 tonnes, compared to the previously scheduled aircraft, which was expected to transport 79 pallets weighing about 40 tonnes.
She said the new aircraft will carry ballot papers initially allocated to the first and second flights, as well as part of the third shipment.
Ms. Mutiti further assured stakeholders that the Commission has shared all details relating to the revised flight schedule and the ballot paper consignments, maintaining that no information has been withheld.
Meanwhile, Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Vice President for Commercial Rajeev Tyagi said the original flight could not depart as scheduled due to a technical problem affecting the aircraft.
Mr. Tyagi assured stakeholders that the printing company remains committed to delivering all ballot papers within the agreed timelines.
