CITIZENS FIRST CHALLENGES DEC AND ACC TO PROBE K14 MILLION LCC REVENUE INCREASE

The opposition Citizens First–Orange Alliance has called on the Drug Enforcement Commission –DEC-, and the Anti-Corruption Commission –ACC-, to immediately investigate and prosecute current and former senior Lusaka City Council –LCC-, officials in revenue, finance and procurement departments following revelations on a sharp rise in the local authority’s revenue.

Alliance Presidential Campaign Manager and National Spokesperson Stanley Mhango says if reports that LCC’s revenue has increased from about K61 thousand to nearly K14 million following digital reforms are accurate, then the development points to possible corruption rather than administrative success.

Mr. Mhango says that Lusaka residents have for years endured poor service delivery, including uncollected garbage, deteriorating road networks and struggling markets, despite alleged millions of Kwacha allocated for public services.

He has further called on the Office of the Auditor General to conduct a forensic audit of LCC covering the past five years and ensure that the findings are made public, while urging the local government service commission to suspend all implicated senior officials pending investigations.

Last week, Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Administration Dr. Gabriel Pollen disclosed that LCC collected nearly K14 million in revenue in June 2026 following the rollout of the pilot E-Council Digitalisation Project on the Government Service Bus launched on May 26, 2026.
