DR. VERNON MWAANGA Predicts HH Election Victory
By Arnold Tutu
Former diplomat and politician VERNON MWAANGA says his assessment of the political landscape points to President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA winning the August 13, 2026 presidential election.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News today, Dr. MWAANGA said his projection is based on information gathered through a network of district-based non-governmental organisations, discussions with citizens across the country and his own analysis of the electoral environment.
He said the available evidence gives the incumbent a clear advantage, but added that the final outcome will only be decided by Zambian voters on polling day.
Dr. MWAANGA also praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- for its handling of the electoral process, saying voter registration, verification and candidate nominations have been managed professionally.
He further praised political parties and independent candidates for largely peaceful campaigns and appealed for tolerance before, during and after next month's elections.
Dr. MWAANGA said the increase in registered voters to about 8.7 Million, including many first-time young voters and a majority of women voters, is expected to boost participation in this year's poll.
He attributed his prediction to what he described as the Government's economic record including debt restructuring, free education, economic recovery and renewed investor confidence, which he said have featured prominently in his discussions with voters.
The General election is scheduled for August 13, 2026.
