ECZ Dismisses False Claims of Secret Ballot Paper Printing for 2026 General Election

LUSAKA – The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dismissed as false and malicious allegations circulating on social media claiming that ballot papers for the 2026 General Election were secretly printed in Tanzania and would be smuggled into Zambia to favour President Hakainde Hichilema.

In a press statement issued on 17 July 2026, the Commission clarified that all ballot papers for the upcoming elections are being printed in Dubai by Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing LLC under a transparent process supervised by representatives of political parties and members of the media.

The ECZ further stated that no ballot papers for the 2026 General Election will enter Zambia by road through any border post.

Instead, the Commission said all ballot papers will be transported by air on a chartered aircraft directly to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka.

Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the Commission will announce the dispatch schedule and invite political stakeholders, election observers and members of the media to witness the arrival and verification of the ballot papers before they are distributed to districts across the country.

The Commission has urged members of the public and all election stakeholders to disregard misinformation intended to undermine confidence in the electoral process.

The ECZ reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the 2026 General Election in a transparent, credible and accountable manner, while encouraging citizens to rely on official Commission communications for verified election information.
