Four Chongwe Candidates Withdraw from 2026 General Elections, ECZ Confirms


 LUSAKA - The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced the withdrawal of four aspiring candidates from the 2026 General Elections in Chongwe District.

According to the Commission, the candidates who have resigned from the electoral race are:

  • Robster Mwanza, aspiring Member of Parliament for Chongwe East Constituency, who was nominated under the Resolute Party.

  • Kelly Nyambe, aspiring Mulenje Ward Councillor, who was nominated under the National Reform Party for Unity and Progress (NRPUP).

  • Brian Mutalange, aspiring Lwimba Ward Councillor, who was contesting as an Independent Candidate.

  • David Daka, aspiring Chalimbana Ward Councillor, who was nominated under the United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ).

The ECZ has not disclosed the reasons behind the candidates' decisions to withdraw from the elections.

The resignations come as the Commission continues preparations for the August 13, 2026 General Elections, with electoral processes progressing across the country.
