LUSAKA MAN SHOOTS WIFE, STATE LAWYER AND HIMSELF IN FAMILY DISPUTE TURNED MURDER-SUICIDE

A man from Lusaka has allegedly murdered his wife and her brother before committing suicide following a domestic dispute.

The victims have been identified as Innocent Nyambe, 39, a state lawyer, his sister Theresa Nyambe, 43, and her husband Clifford Chileshe, 45.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the shooting happened around 15:00 hours on July 8, 2026 and Police officers who rushed to the scene found all three victims with gunshot wounds.

Initial investigations show that the incident followed a domestic violence complaint Theresa had made against her husband two days earlier.
Police said Theresa reported Chileshe on July 6, alleging that he assaulted her at their home in Makeni Villa. She suffered a cut on her upper lip, swollen eyes, a bleeding nose and general body pains. A case was opened, and she was given a medical report form.

On Wednesday, Theresa returned to the Victim Support Unit at Kanyama Police Station to follow up on the case. She was accompanied by her younger brother, Innocent. The two later went to the couple’s home after police issued a call-out notice requiring Chileshe to report to the station.
Police believe that shortly after they arrived, Chileshe allegedly opened fire, first shooting Innocent before fatally shooting Theresa outside the house. He then went back inside and is believed to have shot himself.
When officers arrived, they found Theresa lying near the entrance to the house. After forcing the door open, they found the bodies of Innocent and Chileshe inside.
Police recovered eight spent cartridges and two firearms a CANIK pistol and a Millennium G2 pistol which have been taken for forensic examination.
Two vehicles found at the scene, a Nissan Navara and a Subaru Impreza, have also been impounded as part of the investigation.
The bodies have been taken to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
