PACRA SAYS OVER 300,000 BUSINESSES RISKED REMOVAL FROM REGISTER LAST YEAR FOR NON-COMPLIANCE

The Patents and Companies Registration Agency -PACRA- has revealed that more than 300,000 businesses were earmarked for removal from the register in 2025 due to failure to meet statutory obligations.

PACRA Director Corporate, Planning and Compliance, Sunduzwayo Zimba, has expressed concern over the low levels of compliance among businesses, warning that the trend is undermining the country’s formal business environment.

Speaking to Phoenix News at the ongoing Zambia International Trade Fair, Mr. Zimba attributed the poor compliance levels to a culture of disregarding the law, with many businesses failing to fulfil mandatory obligations such as filing annual returns and keeping their records up to date.

He said maintaining compliance is essential for businesses to remain credible, access opportunities such as financing and public tenders, and continue operating within the legal framework.

Mr. Zimba has reaffirmed PACRA’s commitment to strengthening public sensitization and awareness campaigns to encourage business entities to comply with the law and improve overall compliance levels across the country.
