SOLWEZI POLICE PROBE KANDEMBA MURDER CASE

The Zambia Police Service in Solwezi District has launched investigations into a murder case in which a 25‑year‑old man was shot dead at his residence in Kandemba Compound, Kimiteto Area.
Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the incident occurred on July 10, 2026, around 15:30 hours, and was reported to Kyawama Police Station shortly afterwards by the victim’s brother, William Chibuye (30).
The deceased has been identified as Sarkodie Chibuye (25). Preliminary investigations suggest that he arrived home with two men before neighbours heard an argument followed by a gunshot. The two men fled the scene, leaving Sarkodie with a fatal chest wound. He was rushed to Solwezi General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Members of the public pursued the suspects and apprehended one, identified as Kayombo, who was found with a Taurus pistol loaded with ammunition. He sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by the crowd and is currently admitted to Solwezi General Hospital under police guard. He is expected to be charged with murder once his condition improves.
The second suspect remains at large, and police investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Solwezi General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting post‑mortem examination.
