UPND DISMISSES CLAIMS OF FACILITATING CHILUFYA TAYALI’S RETURN TO ZAMBIA, SAYS IT HAS NO FORMAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM

The UPND has dismissed as false and baseless reports that it facilitated the return of political commentator Chilufya Tayali to Zambia.
UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu has described the allegations that Mr. Tayali’s reported return was facilitated by the ruling party through promises of protection and a government job as unfounded.
Mr. Nkandu has told Phoenix News that the UPND has no formal relationship with Mr. Tayali and that while the party would welcome him should he choose to join, it would not interfere in any of his legal matters, stressing that the law must be allowed to take its course.
He further noted that other opposition figures, including Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba, who left the country under similar circumstances, remain free to return home, resolve any outstanding legal issues, and continue living their lives freely.
Reports have emerged that Mr. Tayali has returned home under the protection of the current administration following his exile to Singapore after government placed him on Interpol’s wanted persons list, following the issuance of two bench warrants for his failure to appear in court.
