NATIONAL Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says his party has already identified 12 farming blocks across the country that will create more than 300,000 jobs within three years if elected into government.
Speaking during an interview on Hot FM this morning, Mundubile said the farming blocks would be developed through government investment and partnerships with the private sector.
He said the aim is to turn the farming blocks into centres of agriculture and manufacturing where crops will not only be grown but also processed into finished products.
"We have identified 12 farming blocks across the country and government will invest in these farming blocks, attract investment from the private sector," said Mundubile.
"The aim is that at the end of two years we must begin to see some downstream industries in these farming blocks by way of value addition."
Mundubile explained that building factories in the farming blocks to process agricultural produce would create jobs and increase farmers' incomes.
"We are looking at 12 farming blocks that within three years they should be able to employ over 300,000 people. We think this is going to make a huge difference," he said.
He said the project would help tackle unemployment by creating opportunities for young people and other job seekers while promoting value addition instead of exporting raw agricultural products.
