ZAMBIA ARMY SOLDIER STEALS VITZ

POLICE in Lusaka are holding a 23 year old Zambia Army lance corporal for stealing a pocket sized vehicle known as Vitz and revving off with it to the ablution town of Kabwe, also known as Sunda Station.
The soldier, identified as Jacob Mwansa is alleged to have awarded himself a free small, compact hatchback car and ride after a drinking spree at one of the nightclubs in the township known for slayqueens and salons, Kabwata.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi told Kalemba the incident happened during the long weekend on Sunday.
Chilabi said the Toyota Vitz was stolen while parked at Cheers Supermarket, popularly known as Kabwata Cash and Carry (KCC).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the soldier drove away with the vehicle which had been parked at KCC after picking its keys that may have been dropped by the owner.
"Following the report, police launched investigations. On July 6, 2026, with the assistance of the vehicle owner, the stolen motor vehicle was tracked to Kabwe. Officers from the Anti-Robbery Squad at Central Police Division in Kabwe were alerted and swiftly recovered the vehicle," said Chilabi.
Instead of focusing on protecting the country from enemies, Mwansa resorted to treating a parked vehicle like spoila of war enemy that ought to be seized.
After tracking the vehicle to Kabwe, a town also known for having numerous brothels, Kabwata Police officers drove all the way and recovered the motor vehicle.
The suspect is cooling off in the cold concrete floors of Kabwata Police Station.
"Officers from Kabwata Police Station travelled to Kabwe and returned with both the recovered motor vehicle and the suspect, who is currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing," Chilabi told Kalemba.
