The Zambia National Union of Teachers-ZNUT- has encouraged unemployed teachers to attend President Hakainde Hichilema's provincial tours and campaign rallies in the hope of being considered for jobs, after the President ordered the recruitment of volunteer health workers who attended recent campaign events.

Speaking in an interview with Phoenix News, ZNUT President Brian Manyando has acknowledged that government has employed a significant number of teachers in recent years, but says many qualified teachers remain unemployed and that there is still need to recruit more.

Mr. Manyando says unemployed teachers should take advantage of the President's public engagements, expressing hope that similar employment opportunities could also be extended to them.

Recently, President Hichilema directed the employment of a number of volunteer health workers who attended his campaign rallies in Isoka, Kaputa and Mporokoso as a gesture of appreciation for their service.

Mr. Manyando further urged President Hichilema to ensure fairness in the allocation of employment opportunities, saying both teachers and health workers are essential public service professionals who deserve equal consideration.
