LUSAKA - Businessman and National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) member Kennedy Kamba has withdrawn his High Court application seeking release from police custody.
According to a notice of discontinuance filed by his lawyers, Aongola and Company Legal Practitioners, Mr. Kamba has wholly discontinued the habeas corpus proceedings against the Attorney General with immediate effect.
Mr. Kamba had petitioned the Lusaka High Court for a writ of habeas corpus, arguing that he had been unlawfully detained at Ibex Hill Police Station since his arrest at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on July 27, 2026, without being formally charged or brought before a court.
The application sought a court order directing authorities to justify the legality of his detention and secure his release if the detention was found to be unlawful.
No reason has been publicly provided for the withdrawal of the application, and it remains unclear whether any further legal proceedings relating to his detention are anticipated.
The discontinuance means the High Court will no longer hear the matter.
