LUSAKA - The Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) has welcomed the arrest of former Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Yuyi Mwala in connection with an alleged copper theft case but has urged Zambians to avoid drawing conclusions before the matter is fully determined by the courts.
CAAC Chief Executive Officer Brighton Tembo said the arrest is a positive development but should only be viewed as the beginning of the legal process.
He noted that an arrest, prosecution and eventual conviction are separate stages and cautioned against treating the arrest alone as evidence of progress in holding individuals close to the corridors of power accountable.
Mr. Tembo said Zambia has witnessed several high-profile corruption cases in the past that failed to meet public expectations.
He noted that some cases have ended in acquittals, while others have stalled or faded from public attention before reaching a conclusive outcome.
Mr. Tembo has since called on citizens to closely follow the court proceedings to ensure accountability throughout the judicial process.
He expressed hope that the case will be concluded in a manner that strengthens public confidence in Zambia's anti-corruption efforts and the justice system.
