LUSAKA - Democratic Union (DU) President Ackim Antony Njobvu has reaffirmed his party's commitment to peaceful and issue-based campaigning after signing the Peace and Non-Violence Pledge at the National Peace Pledge Signing Ceremony.
In a statement shared after the event, Mr. Njobvu said he signed the pledge on behalf of the Democratic Union alongside leaders of other political parties.
He said the party is committed to conducting a campaign focused on ideas and policies rather than personal attacks.
"We commit to an issue-based campaign that debates ideas, not insults; policies, not personalities. We take a firm stand for non-violence before, during and after the elections," Mr. Njobvu stated.
He further urged political players and citizens to safeguard peace throughout the electoral process, emphasizing that Zambia's national interest should take precedence over political competition.
"Zambia is bigger than any party. Let us compete hard, but keep the peace. One Zambia. One Nation. One Future," he said.
The Peace Pledge is aimed at promoting peaceful campaigns and preventing election-related violence ahead of the August 13, 2026 General Election.
