LUSAKA - The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has revoked, with immediate effect, the accreditation granted to Tonse Pamodzi Alliance Chairperson for Presidential Affairs Binwell Mpundu to access the National Results Centre.
The Commission said the decision was made in the interest of public safety and security pursuant to Section 77(6) of the Electoral Process Act and Paragraph 11(1)(c) of the Electoral Code of Conduct.
According to the ECZ, the revocation follows a video attributed to Mr. Mpundu circulating on social media in which he is alleged to have made statements indicating that he was ready to kill during the election.
The Commission said statements of this nature are a serious concern because they have the potential to incite violence, create public unrest and undermine the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
The ECZ said the decision to revoke Mr. Mpundu’s accreditation is intended to safeguard public safety and support the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
