LUSAKA - The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) says it has put in place a framework for the transition from fossil fuel vehicles to electric mobility, with the aim of accelerating the process once investors come on board.
ERB Director General Engineer Elijah Sichone said the regulator considered it prudent to establish the necessary systems in advance because the transition to electric mobility is a complex and time-consuming process.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Engineer Sichone said electric mobility is being championed by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, while the ERB's role is to regulate the sector.
He underscored the importance of having a regulatory framework in place before investors enter the market, saying this would provide certainty for companies seeking to invest in electric mobility infrastructure.
Engineer Sichone said the ERB has therefore been proactive in developing a methodology for charging for electric mobility services that investors will provide.
He further said the regulator has played its part in preparing for the transition and that licensing of electric mobility projects will be completed within one month.
