LUSAKA - Former Kazungula South aspiring parliamentary candidate Gift Machobani has appealed to voters, particularly those in the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces, to re-elect President Hakainde Hichilema in the August 13, 2026 General Election.
Mr. Machobani, who is also a member of the Presidential Campaign Team, said Zambia's growing mining investment is the result of sustained engagement with the international investment community.
He said the more than US$19.07 billion in investment recorded since 2021 stems from efforts President Hichilema began while serving in the opposition.
According to Mr. Machobani, President Hichilema consistently participated in international investment forums, including the Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, where he promoted Zambia as an investment destination and established relationships with global mining investors.
He questioned whether opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has developed comparable international networks capable of sustaining investor confidence.
Mr. Machobani warned that Zambia should not risk disrupting the progress made in attracting foreign direct investment, particularly at a time when the mining sector continues to drive economic growth.
He said a decline in investor confidence could negatively affect mining investment, especially in the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces, where the sector remains a major source of employment and economic activity.
Mr. Machobani urged Zambians to grant President Hichilema a second five-year mandate, saying policy consistency and Zambia's international credibility will be essential to attracting further investment and building on the gains achieved since 2021.
