MONZE - Three people have died while two others sustained injuries following a road traffic accident involving two trucks in Monze District, Southern Province.
The accident, involving a Volvo truck and a Scania truck, occurred yesterday at around 04:40 hours on the Great North Road.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the accident, saying the deceased included the driver of one of the trucks and his two passengers.
Mr Namalongo identified the deceased driver as 28-year-old Sternford Munsaka, who was driving the Scania truck.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Munsaka allegedly failed to keep to his lane and collided head-on with the Volvo truck driven by 38-year-old Claytus Chibesa.
Mr Namalongo said Mr Chibesa and one passenger from the Scania truck survived the accident and are currently admitted to hospital.
