LUAMPA - A Zambia Police Service officer was caught up in the violence that erupted in Luampa District, Western Province, after suspected UPND supporters allegedly blocked the road and attacked National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and members of his entourage.
Mr. Mundubile had entered Western Province earlier in the day as part of his nationwide campaign ahead of the August 13 General Election.
According to reports, the incident occurred after the campaign convoy was allegedly confronted by suspected UPND supporters, resulting in a violent altercation.
A Zambia Police Service officer was among those caught up in the fracas. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the officer's condition or whether any arrests have been made.
The incident comes amid growing concern over political violence as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of polling day.
Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive statement on the incident.
