CHOMA - President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded an Official Funeral to the late Southern Province Permanent Secretary, Dr. Namani Monze, in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation.
Dr. Monze, 52, died after an illness at Choma General Hospital on July 28, 2026.
In a statement, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said President Hichilema had honoured Dr. Monze for his outstanding contribution to the Public Service.
Mr. Kangwa said the late Permanent Secretary made significant contributions to the development of ophthalmology in Zambia's health sector and provided leadership in the implementation of Government programmes in Southern Province.
He said Dr. Monze would be laid to rest today, August 4, 2026, at his farm in Bwacha Ward, off the Great North Road in Choma District.
The burial will be preceded by an official funeral church service at the farm, scheduled to begin at 10:00 hours.
President Hichilema has also declared August 4, 2026, a Day of National Mourning in honour of Dr. Monze.
The one-day period of national mourning will be observed from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours, during which all national flags will fly at half-mast.
