Social Anthropologist Urges UPND to Disclose Campaign Funding Sources

LUSAKA - Social anthropologist Dr. James Musonda has urged the United Party for National Development (UPND) to disclose the sources of its campaign funding instead of criticising the Tonse Alliance for seeking financial assistance.

Speaking to Hot FM News, Dr. Musonda said transparency in campaign financing enables citizens to know who is funding political parties, making it easier to hold both political leaders and their sponsors accountable.

He said governments that receive financial support from foreign interests during election campaigns risk adopting policies that favour their sponsors rather than serving the interests of Zambian citizens.

Dr. Musonda warned that such arrangements could compromise national interests and influence government decision-making once a political party assumes office.

He further noted that previous elections were characterised by allegations of foreign sponsorship involving some political leaders, claims he said were never publicly refuted.
