LUSAKA - The United Party for National Development (UPND) has dismissed as irresponsible and desperate allegations by the Tonse Alliance that foreign nationals from neighbouring countries will be brought into Zambia to influence the forthcoming general election.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe said the claims reflect the opposition's growing desperation as the country approaches polling day.
Mr. Simuuwe said that despite the controversies surrounding the 2021 general election, the UPND secured a decisive victory because Zambians demanded change.
He said the ruling party does not require external assistance to win this year's election.
Mr. Simuuwe attributed continued public support for the UPND to progress in economic recovery, expanded social programmes, infrastructure development, agricultural support and improved governance.
He urged the Tonse Alliance to stop spreading what he described as misinformation and instead explain to Zambians why it deserves another opportunity to govern.
