LUSAKA - The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has announced that volunteer health workers identified by President Hakainde Hichilema for employment will form part of the ongoing 2026 health workers recruitment exercise, with the applicants receiving special consideration during the selection process.
Speaking during a media briefing, Civil Service Commission Chairperson Dr. Choolwe Beyani said the Commission has taken note of the President's directive and has begun the necessary processes to facilitate the recruitment of the volunteer health workers.
Dr. Beyani clarified that the volunteer workers will not be recruited through a separate process but will be included in the overall pool of applicants competing for 2,600 positions in the civil service.
He said all applicants remain eligible for recruitment, but those identified through the presidential directive will receive special consideration.
"All those who applied are eligible for recruitment, but those given a special directive by the President will have special consideration. They are part of the total number of applicants, but those with a special presidential directive will be given special recognition," he said.
Dr. Beyani added that the Commission has already collected application documents from Muchinga, Northern, and Luapula provinces, where President Hichilema initially directed that volunteer health workers be recruited.
He described the presidential directive as a demonstration of the Government's commitment to recognising the dedication and service of volunteer health professionals who have continued providing essential healthcare services.
The Commission also announced that August 7, 2026, is the deadline for submitting applications.
Applicants will be required to verify their application details at their respective provincial offices between September 1 and September 11, 2026.
