LUSAKA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election as President of Zambia and invited him to visit Ukraine.
In a message dated August 31, 2026, President Zelenskyy said the support received by President Hichilema reflected Zambians' trust in his leadership and their desire for further democratic development.
President Zelenskyy said Ukraine valued its friendly relations with Zambia and appreciated the country's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.
He said Ukraine was ready to strengthen cooperation with Zambia in areas of mutual interest, including bilateral engagement within international organisations.
President Zelenskyy also invited President Hichilema to visit Ukraine, saying he would be pleased to welcome the Zambian leader.
He wished President Hichilema good health and success in his duties and wished the people of Zambia peace, harmony and prosperity.
