ZACCI CALLS FOR LIFTING OF SUSPENSION ON MANDATORY USE OF FACEMASKS

By Michael Kaluba

The Zambian business community is urging government to lift the suspension on the mandatory use of facemasks in key areas and locations as the country experiences a sharp increase in the number of Covid cases.

Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry-ZACCI- President Chabuka Kawesha says the business community was hit hard and hurt previously with Small and Medium Enterprises-SMEs- and corporates still recovering hence the need to quickly act before the situation gets worse.

Dr. Kawesha is of the view that the rising Covid cases seen this week must be an alert enough for government to act, citing statistics given on 27th and 28th December 2022 by the Ministry of Health through its daily updates which indicated 198 and 277 active cases respectively including 1 death.

In a statement, Dr. Kawesha is urging government to use the already existing framework that helped the country reduce the spread and management of Covid previously.
