Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe has announced that the mines safety department has cleared NFCA to resume operations, three months after the mine was suspended owing to safety concerns.
Over 1000 workers have been on forced leave for the past three months as a result of one miner's death after five workers were trapped at the NFCA 788-meter level due to a mine wall collapse.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Kabuswe however states that laying off mine workers is a serious and lengthy procedure that requires official notification and justification to the relevant government ministries.
He further states that he expects employees to keep their jobs now that NFCA has been cleared to begin operations, despite union concerns about the fate of the 1000 JCHX employees.
