Zambia calls for end to war and need to embrace dialogue

THE Zambian Government has emphasized its belief in the need to ensure that every war comes to an end and that dialogue that leads to cessation should be encouraged in the global community.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Stanley Kakubo also said there is a need to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to all the people affected by the conflict, especially women and children.

Mr Kakuko said this yesterday when he received Her Excellency Ms. Ofra Farhi, Ambassador of Israel accredited to Zambia, at Charter House in Lusaka.

This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

“The meeting was aimed at affirming the existing excellent bilateral relations and cooperation between Zambia and Israel. The two parties discussed matters of peace and security, particularly ways of ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

“The Zambian side emphasized its belief that every war must come to an end, and further encouraged dialogue that leads to cessation,” the statement reads in part.

In addition, the minister emphasized the need to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to all the people affected by the conflict, especially women and children.

The call for an end to war comes at a time when an armed conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups has been taking place chiefly in and around the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023, with clashes also taking place in the West Bank and Israel–Lebanon border

Al Jazeera reports that at least 19,667 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October this year.
