BRIDGE GAP BETWEEN PROPAGANDA AND TRUTH, MWEETWA URGES ZNBC

Government has called on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), a strategic institution in the country to bridge the gap between propaganda and facts.

Ministry of Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa says government is concerned with the increase in the tendency by some citizens to engage in propaganda on issues relating to governance and government operations.
Speaking this morning when ZNBC Board led by its Chairperson Bishop Joseph Kazhila paid a courtesy call on him at his office, Mr.Mweetwa called on ZNBC to step up to the challenge and bridge the gap between propaganda and truth.
"ZNBC is a traditionally reliable platform informing the nation based on truth and facts," Mr.Mweetwa said.
Mr. Mweetwa charged that feeding a nation on a diet of misinformation distorts people's understanding and participation in the governance of the country by influencing negatively their choices and decisions as to how they stand in relation to their government.
Mr. Mweetwa cited the heightened propaganda making rounds that GMO mealie meal is being fed to citizens which he described as being diametrically opposed to the truth obtaining on the ground.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mweetwa called on ZNBC to invest more in investigative journalism stating that the state of a nation's governance is as good as the state of the media because the media leads the agenda of both progress and regress depending on it is managed.
